King Ride 2011
CBD Cycles - 30/05/2011
Giant's annual King ride was held again on the weekend. it's a celebration of all things that are good on or off the road.

Ride Like King Day was initially launched to celebrate company founder King Liu’s passion for cycling. King’s commitment to cycling. At the age of 73 after spending much of his life developing the Giant business, King completed a 927km bike ride around Taiwan where Giant’s headquarters are located. Two years later in 2009 he also embarked on a 20-day ride from Beijing to Shanghai in China as well as participating in many other rides since. To show King their support, Giant employees organised their own rides the day before King began his ride through China and that’s how Ride Like King Day was born.

Giant staff met early on an overcast Melbourne Autumn morning, and after a group photograph was snapped they headed along the famous Beach Road down to Frankston where refreshments were served.

After riding through China in 2009 King said “Many people travel in cars, with high speeds and close windows. But on bikes, people greet each other, building human relationships and gradually shaping a more peaceful society.” These words were reflected on Sunday morning as the ride provided a great social setting for Giant staff and friends to interact with one other out on the road.

The ride ended with a chat and breakfast stop back in St Kilda and some hot coffees helped warm everyone up after a cool Melbourne morning.

Long live the KING!
