VIS Dominate Final Gatorade Race
CBD Cycles - 21/03/2011
The VIS Triathlon program competed on the weekend at the 6th and final round of the Gatorade series at Catani Gardens in St Kilda.

In the women's race Erin Densham overcame a heavy pre race bike crash to take out her first Gatorade win in 2011.

Erin was able to exit the water first and then control the pace on the bike before running away with a very easy victory.

In the men's race the VIS had 5 athletes compete with Brendan Sexton, Peter Kerr, Jamie Huggett and talent transfer athletes Tim Clarke and Joel Tobin White.

Peter Kerr led the swim out followed closely by Huggett and Sexton with Tim Clarke and Joel Tobin White exiting in the 3rd group. After a relatively calm start to the bike the entire field came together and headed into the bike to run transition as a pack.

Sexton blitzed his peers through transition and exited the run at a blistering pace and then proceeded to run away with the victory without any challenge. The race behind proved to be where the majority of the interest lay and at the 1km mark Peter Kerr put in two consecutive surges to split the field and this left Pete Kerr by himself running for second and jamie Huggett and Craig Mackenzie fighting for third.

At the finish line Sexton had ample time to celebrate his victory in the round 6 events as well as taking out the overall series with his four wins this season. Peter Kerr ran strongly to finish 2nd whilst Craig Mackenzie pipped Huggett at the line for third. Joel Tobin White continued to impress with a solid run and subsequent 5th place which for a 16 year old is very exciting and Tim Clarke continued his return from an injury break by finishing in 6th place.

The VIS use Giant bikes supplied by CBD Cycles.
